JBCC stands for Joint Building Contracts Committee. It’s a group in South Africa that creates standard building contracts used for construction jobs – big or small.

So when you sign a JBCC contract, it means:

  • The rules of the job are already laid out
  • Everyone knows their responsibilities – client, contractor, subcontractor, etc.
  • It covers things like payments, delays, penalties, site handover, and guarantees

It’s like having a proper building plan – but for how the contract runs, not just the structure.

Most private and public jobs in SA use JBCC, so it’s important to understand what you’re signing. The wording can protect you – or catch you out – depending on how the clauses are written.
